RF Catalyst Automotive: Funding, IP and AI Strategy for Breakthrough Emissions Technology

How The AI Consultancy took a technically brilliant but commercially unstructured cleantech venture from unfunded concept to institutional engagement, with a GBP 90 million plus funding pipeline, a patent protection plan for six core innovations, and an AI integration roadmap for the underlying plasma-catalytic system.

The Challenge

RF Catalyst Automotive, founded by Kane, developed a breakthrough RF plasma-catalytic exhaust aftertreatment system targeting near-zero emissions for Class 4 to 8 heavy-duty diesel vehicles, without requiring engine replacement. The underlying technology was genuinely novel, addressing a decarbonisation gap that incumbent aftertreatment vendors had not solved.

The founder held deep technical knowledge but the venture lacked commercial structure. No patents had been filed. No funding had been secured. No institutional partnerships were formalised. There was no clear pathway from concept to prototype, and six core patents worth an estimated USD 137,000 in filing costs were at risk of public disclosure without protection.

The venture needed a commercially literate partner who could translate the underlying science into a fundable roadmap, protect the IP, identify the right UK innovation funding programmes, and specify where AI belonged inside the product architecture.
